It's National Crafting Month and Women's History Month

Hey, Y'all! It's National Crafting Month and Women's History Month. How lucky are we to have a whole month dedicated to crafting and women's history? Women have historically been active crafters and small business owners. Dee Dee and I come from a long line of crafty men and women. Not only do we love to craft, but we also love to pass that love of crafting down to the next generation. My granddaughters love to craft with us and we love that we are creating memories with them that will last a lifetime.

In recent years, there has been a surge in the popularity of handmade goods. From hand-sewn clothes to hand-thrown pottery, there is a renewed appreciation for the unique qualities that come with something crafted by hand. The rise of social media platforms has made it easier than ever for handmade artisans to showcase their work and connect with customers. Marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon Handmade, and the newer platform Goimagine offer an additional avenue for small businesses to market and sell their handmade products. With so many new techniques and ideas emerging, there has never been a better time for handmade artisans to thrive. The personal touch and attention to detail that comes with handmade goods are increasingly valued by consumers looking for something special and one-of-a-kind. As a result, the handmade movement shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Goimagine is a marketplace strictly for handmade that is working hard to create a caring economy by donating their profits to children's charities. Read more about their mission here.

We are blessed to be part of some wonderful handmade communities filled with very talented artisans that are rocking their small businesses. Flourish is a community for handmade business owners filled with talented artisans. Check out their awesome creations here.

There are so many handmade possibilities now. From more traditional crafts like fiber crafts, pottery, and wood working to newer crafts such as resin crafts.

Crafts have always been a way for people to express their creativity and make something unique and personal. Flower arranging is a timeless craft that involves arranging different types of flowers and greenery in a visually pleasing way. It can be a therapeutic activity that allows people to relax and connect with nature. Laser cutting wood is a modern craft that uses technology to create intricate designs on wood. It's a great way to personalize items like jewelry boxes, picture frames, and even furniture. It's a perfect example of how technology can be used to enhance traditional crafts. Candle making and soap making are two crafts that have been around for centuries. Both involve using natural ingredients to create beautiful and functional products. Candle making is a great way to add ambiance and fragrance to your home, while soap making allows you to customize the ingredients to suit your skin's needs. Overall, these crafts are a great way to tap into your creativity and make something unique and special. Whether you're a seasoned crafter or just starting, there's always something new to learn and explore.

One way to support handmade communities is to purchase products directly from the artisans themselves, whether that be at local craft fairs, online marketplaces, or through their personal websites. By doing so, you are supporting their businesses and helping to keep traditional crafts alive. Another way to support handmade communities is to spread the word about their work through social media or by leaving positive reviews. This can help to increase their visibility and bring in new customers. Finally, you can also support handmade communities by participating in workshops, classes, or events offered by artisans or local craft organizations. This can provide you with the opportunity to learn new skills while also supporting the artisans who are sharing their knowledge and expertise.

March is an exciting month for creativity and celebration, as it marks both National Crafting Month and Women's History Month. National Crafting Month encourages people to tap into their inner artists and express themselves through various craft projects. Whether it's knitting, scrapbooking, painting, or any other creative activity, this month celebrates the joys of crafting and the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands. On the other hand, Women's History Month honors the contributions and achievements of women throughout history. It's a time to recognize the incredible women who have made a positive impact on the world, as well as those who continue to inspire and empower others today. Women have played an important role in the arts and crafts community, and their contributions have helped shape the industry into what it is today. Both National Crafting Month and Women's History Month celebrate creativity, passion, and perseverance. They remind us of the power of self-expression and the importance of recognizing and celebrating the achievements of all individuals, regardless of gender. Whether we're crafting something new or reflecting on the incredible accomplishments of women throughout history, these months offer a time to celebrate and honor the beauty and diversity of the world around us. Supporting handmade and women-run businesses is not only a way to promote creativity and diversity, but also a way to empower women and support their economic independence. As a consumer, you have the power to make a difference by choosing to support these businesses.

Remember, every purchase you make is a vote for the kind of world you want to live in. By supporting handmade and women-run businesses, you are helping to build a more diverse, creative, and equitable world for all.
